Purno Agitok Sangma (1 September – 4 March ) was an Indian politician who has served as the 4th Chief Minister of Meghalaya from to and the 11th Speaker of the Lok Sabha from to [1] He served as a member of the Lok Sabha from Tura in Meghalaya from to , to and from to and the minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Rao ministry from to He was the founder of National People's Party and co-founder of Nationalist Congress Party.

Sangma contested the Indian presidential election, supported by the Bharatiya Janta Party and the AIADMK. However he lost to Pranab Mukherjee of the Indian National Congress. Sangma was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award, posthumously in , in the field of Public Affairs and was the first recipient of the award from Meghalaya.[2][3][4]
